If you see God as easily angered, judging harshly and condemning, unwilling to help you, or always wanting to test you and send bad things in your life to punish you, you will live like the slave of a temperamental master.                                                                                                                                              You will never know if you are good enough or worthy enough for God to answer your prayers.

But what if God is kinder than you think ? What if His reputation has been ruined by men who didn’t really know Him ? There is no one more misunderstood than God! Let’s look at some Bible verses that paint a different picture.

Exodus 34 :6 : The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Psalm 33 :5 : He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

We see in these verses an image of a good and loving God, longsuffering, merciful and just.  Let’s continue :

Matthew 7 :11 : If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!                                                                                                                                                                                                         Psalm 103 :13-14 :   As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame ; He remembers that we are dust.

Here we have the image of a good and loving Father. Maybe you did not have a good father and it may be difficult for you to imagine God as your Father, but He is wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient with us, His precious children.

Sadly, many sincere believers have been painted a picture of an angry, vindictive God, or a stern God of rules who will only love them and bless them if they earn it, and the truth of God’s goodness sounds like error to them. The reality is different.

God in His goodness is showing mercy to all, whether they deserve it or not.

Matthew 5.45 : He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.                                                                                                                         Psalm 145 : 8-10 : The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

God is the source of all goodness.  Even in this fallen world, lying in darkness, we still have air to breathe, food to eat, people to love and people who love us. None of this would be possible without the presence and goodness of God.

Psalm 107 :8-9 : For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.

And let’s not forget the ultimate proof of God’s love for us :                                                                       Romains 5 : 8 : God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us !                                                                                                                                                                                                       God's extravagant love flowed to us in the amazing sacrifice of Christ who paid for our sins on the cross. His death for us is the undisputed picture of unmerited goodness.

God knows the worst about you, nevertheless He is the One who loves you most. In every circumstance of your life, the possibilities of miracles and blessings exist. No matter what you’ve done, God’s love and grace are available.

Take a few moments and reflect on God’s goodness and the ways He has moved in your life. It will help you to overcome any obstacles and struggles you may be facing now.                             Psalms 34 :8 : Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him !
